Welcome to Coffee Break

Well, we’re in the second week in August, so the most wonderful time of the year is upon us – back to school.   For all you parents, yay!  For you school teachers…time to shape young minds into greatness.  They’re yours now, so handle with care.  Our future depends on it! With that said, let’s get into this.

Leak Suggests that Microsoft is Looking at a Subscription Service for Windows 10

If this is true, well, that sucks.   From a business perspective, we’ve become accustomed to getting those updates automatically delivered to our inbox. This would be a game changer because it would require a significantly higher investment in our IT budgets.   For smaller businesses, though, it is just another added expense that eats away at an already thin bottom line.

Personally, I don’t believe any operating system is worth a monthly subscription and so for those folks who have eschewed Apple because of their pricey machines, this could move more smaller businesses, especially the creative entrepreneurs, to Macs.

Look, if they go that route, I’m dumping my Window’s PC, converting it to a Hackintosh, and I’ll run that old reliable Windows 7 of mine out of WMWare.

And for home users, nothing to worry about yet.  They are going to come after businesses first.   This is worth keeping an eye on.  The full story can be found here.

What the Hell is Going on With Elon Musk?

The guy has been acting a bit weird of late.  But, he’s proven himself to be a billionaire genius that will take risks (which, of course, led to him being a billionaire!)  His latest?   Apparently, he has floated the idea of taking his company private.

Reaction was swift.  This guy is like the old commercial, you remember, when “Blank Blank Blank talks, everyone listens.”  We don’t know if he’s full of it or not, but you have to admire his courage.

How Many Jobs Did You Apply for Today?

This one is directed at my unemployed readers that are looking for work.   Especially you older candidates.   Keep applying for jobs!   The key here is volume. Since only 2% of applicants get interviews, you have to keep clicking send.

And learn to network, but do it creatively.  This professor believes there’s a better way.  It’s worth a read.

Food for Thought!

I grew up in Ohio where it seemed like all barns were painted red.  Know we know why!  Who said that delivering groceries is a dead-end job.  Not for this former teacher – he’s making bank.   Retiring soon, Suze Orman has a word or two to say about that.   You can’t live out of a van and expect to make it – yeah, right, it didn’t stop this millionaire.   Brian Tracy on the 9 Disciplines of Successful Entrepreneurs.
