My iPhone X or 10?

iPhone X

I’m an Apple geek. I admit that.  And I believe that Apple makes outstanding products. Usually, I don’t endorse them. I just like them. So, it was no surprise to those who knew me that I purchased the iPhone X. I was intrigued by all the new gadgetry, features and speed. And now that I have had it for over six months, you’d think that I would be full of praises for my new toy. But no, that’s not the case.

Let me first start with this disclaimer. I don’t hate the product. In fact, it is a fine piece of technology. Unfortunately, my situation doesn’t require all that technology. So, here a a few gripes I have about my new phone.

On the iPhone X I Miss My Home Button

I miss my home button. Even now, six months later, I still find that I am pressing where the home button should be. I also miss my ability to swipe close opened apps. The new way of closing apps on the iPhone X, is actually the old way, that I used to use on my iPod. That’s really not progress, right?

I don’t know what to call my new phone. Some people say the iPhone 10, others say it’s just the iPhone X. Maybe I’ll just morph the two together and call it the X-10. That way, all my bases are covered. Plus, X-10 sounds really cool, sort of like a spy thing.

Another gripe I have about the iPhone X is all the rumors out there that Apple is going to discontinue it. I bought it, because it was cutting edge technology. It was going to change the way I approach business, interact with friends, and a whole host of other activities. And now with Apple not publicly refuting the rumors, I feel like the guy who bought a brand new suit, yet have come to find out, it’s already out of style. That’s crushing.

Okay, So Technically, This One is Not Just the iPhone X

I miss my earphone jack. Yes, I know that this is not just an iPhone X thing, but I thought I would slip it into my list of gripes and you wouldn’t notice. I now carry wireless headphones where ever I go, and always – and I mean always – I forget to include an old pair that can be plugged in. And so, I often find myself listening to music with my AirPods, when I’m flying, because I’m too embarrassed to ask the flight attendants for a pair of their cheap earbuds to watch the inflight entertainment (I do, however, love my AirPods!).

The bottom line for me, is simple. The iPhone X hasn’t made me more productive as a business person. Yes, it is an excellent conversation starter when sitting next to someone that noticed I shelled out a bunch of money for a phone. But, the features really don’t justify the new expense. And while I love my iPhone X, I could have just as easily managed by with my old iPhone 6. Which I gave to my sister. And she won’t give it back. Darn.
