My Friend Paul

Be Like Paul

Many of us have had that one co-worker that just seemed to get it – that peer that constantly displayed humility even during the toughest of times.  The one that you went to when you felt down on yourself because you knew, he would detect that and quickly build you up.

For me, Paul was one such man.  I met him three years ago.  We shared many things in common.  So, we instantly connected.  If I needed advice, Paul was just a phone call away.  He always gave freely.  Sometimes he told me what I wanted to hear, and oftentimes he told me what I needed to hear.

And now he’s gone.  His voice forever silenced in this world.  His memory, of course will live on.  On the day that this post was written, I found out that mine was not the only life that he touched on a daily basis.  He touched so many.  And his passing reminded us all that life is not guaranteed.  It is our obligation to make the most of each and every day that we have – in business and in our personal lives.

We believe that what we do in this business world is important.  And maybe it is.  We derive most of our successes from our business pursuits.  But that other side, that more important side – our personal life – is infinitely more important than any business transaction we will ever make.  Some of us get that.  Others, well, they get it, but ignore it.  Until it is too late.

During your journey to whatever success you are seeking, always take time to pause and consider the personal side.  Embrace your friends, families and colleagues.  Appreciate them. Show them love, support, and comfort when they need it;  and even when they don’t.  Smile, cheer them on, and become their biggest fan.  Lift them up when they are down.  And ask for nothing in return.

In other words, be like Paul.
