The Secret - Is it Really?

 The Secret

Ever since Oprah featured, "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne on her show, the whole concept has been taking quite a few shots.  The media has chimed in with it's negatives.  I have heard television evangelist funneling criticism and piling on with the negatives as well.  Why does this idea seem to inspire so much dialogue and attract so much criticism?  Isn't what is being said a good thing?

I believe that when we encourage people to do something better about their lives, that's a positive step in the right direction.  "The Secret" moves us towards doing something better for ourselves.  Based on the law of attraction, "The Secret" encourages us to send out positive energy of the life that we want to have.  In a sense, it tells us that 'we get what we give'.

We are told to imagine the life that we want to have, imagine the things that we want to acquire and build that imagine in our minds - believe it, feel it, and know that it is real.  It's not that we have not heard this before.  In the book, "The New Pyscho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz, the author, Dr. Maltz, discusses our self image and tells us that we become what we believe about ourselves. If we believe that we will always be poor, then we will always be poor.

Rhonda Byrne just takes all of this a step further.  She assembles a cast of some of the most respected self-improvement experts in the country and have them introduce the concepts behind, "The Secret" to us.  It's not a bad approach and what she is saying leverages on the old theory of The Law of Attraction, which tells us that we attract in our lives what we think about the most.  Wallace Wattles introduced the concept at the turn of the 20th century in his book, "The Science of Being Rich."

This is not a bad book.  It does not steer us wrong or build false hope.  In fact, if taken in the proper context, it can be a very motivating read.  Decide for yourself.  Buy the book, keep an open mind, and read it.  Incorporate some of the things from the book into your life and then watch good things begin to happen.  Believe me, good things WILL happen in your life.
